Provides support to anyone grieving the death of a friend or family member. Holds one-on-one sessions with staff as well as volunteer assistance offered by individuals who have experienced the grief process. Offers a six week bereavement support group which is held three times annually, providing an opportunity for healing as experiences are shared and information offered. Maintains a lending library of books and videos.

(St Francis Hospice) Nationally accredited by The Joint Commission, St. Francis Hospice, the state’s first hospice program, provides compassionate care and comfort for terminally ill patients in their homes, in nursing homes, and at our inpatient facility in Nuuanu. We make each moment count, enhancing the quality of life for patients, and their families and friends. St. Francis Hospice also has one of the most advanced bereavement services programs, offering support groups, walks in shopping malls, and other activities for families who have lost a loved one. St. Francis Hospice provides a specially trained, interdisciplinary healthcare team that may include a medical director, nurse, social worker, chaplain, hospice aide, volunteer, and bereavement counselor. The St. Francis Hospice care team focuses on each individual patient’s needs to ensure comfort and the best quality of life for our patients and their families.

We welcome bereaved children and teens (3 years old - 18 years old) for free peer support groups (not therapy). Keiki and teens who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, ohana member, or close friend are eligible. Grief support services provided include peer-to-peer support groups in the schools and the community, children's bereavement awareness education, group facilitation training, and care package program. (Hospice Hawaii) Navian Hawaii is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and trained volunteers who meet the physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients and families in the comfort of their own homes as well as in other settings like its Kailua Home, nursing homes and other facilities. The non-profit organization offers Integrated Care for those with serious but treatable illnesses, and Hospice Care for those near their journey’s end, providing assistance with pain management and symptom control. Navian Hawaii provides caregiver support, grief counseling, and complementary therapies including art, aroma, massage, healing touch, and reiki. Navian Hawaii has offices on Oahu, Molokai and Lanai and accepts referrals 24 hours, 7 days a week.

School-based programs are during or after-school and conducted in collaboration with school counselors. Programs offer therapeutic peer support groups that follow the Hawaii Department of Education (HDOE) public school calendar. Kids Hurt Too Hawaii (KHTH) is expanding school-based groups upon request from schools. Requirements include a dedicated therapeutic space for conducting groups at the school. KHTH provides the supplies and set-up as well as trains volunteers to assist if allowed with professional staff available at every group. Currently at Paia and Nanakuli. The program is expanding to other schools upon request. Currently helping elementary school aged children.
