Kumu Kahua means "Original stage" or "Platform". Kumu Kahua is a Playwright's Theatre in the State of Hawaii, providing the local community with 35 years of plays written by local playwrights for the community to attend. The 100 seater black box theatre performs five plays during its Season of Shows. Produces theatre oriented towards Hawaii's people, in their multi-ethnic diversity. Acts as a platform for local writers as well as hands-on operation for local actors, directors and theatre technicians. Offers classes in playwriting and acting. Accepts volunteers to assist with fundraising, box office, ushing, threatre technicians and phone duties.

Maui Academy of Performing Arts provides educational performing arts programs for all ages including academy classes, theatrical productions, Theatre for Young Audiences tours, and classroom residencies integrating drama and literacy skills.

Produces plays and drama education programs which help youth gain an understanding of the arts through theatrical and drama experience. Provides teacher study guides for all plays. 6-8 plays produced yearly; 2-4 tour to the neighbor islands. Provides meeting rooms, convention space and theatrical stage for public use. Meeting Rooms: Includes folding tables and chairs for 600 people. Kitchen: Approved by the State Department of Health for food preparation and concession purposes.
