(Ka Puuwai O Na Keiki, Enhanced Healthy Start, DHS Home Visiting Services) We are a team of Home Visitors that respond to referrals from CWS for Maui County and also FSS and VCM for the island of Maui, and then offer screening for risk factors, assessments, treatment planning and service delivery to reach goals of reunification, parenting skills, support, resources and referrals. Each family referred to our team will be getting visits from a Registered Nurse to identify any developmental challenges and help with health needs. She is also a lactation specialist. They will also receive visits from a Clinical Supervisor for assistance in life with things like addiction, domestic violence and mental health. And each family will be assigned a Family Support Worker who will offer Nurturing Parenting lessons and offering support in an effort to identify and decrease risk factors as well as increasing protective factors. Ka Pu'uwai O Na Keiki never has a waitlist but is specifically referral only for parents and foster parents with a child between the ages of 0 to 3. Accepts collect calls.

(Healthy Start Early Identification, Healthy Start Early Identification, Healthy Start Home Visiting) The purpose of the Healthy Start program is to support and strengthen families. The program service provides voluntary screening, assessment, and referrals to Pregnant Women, Expectant Fathers, and Caregivers of Newborns residing on the island of Kauai who meet the program eligibility criteria. Healthy Start provides home visiting services to eligible families. Program staff partner with parents to address individual needs, set and support goals, build a home environment around the baby and connects parents with helpful services and information that supports learning, safety, and developmental stimulation. The services are free, voluntary, and confidential.

The Hana Like Home Visitor Program “works together” with families to provide supportive coaching, role modeling and teach strategies/materials that enhance the parent/caregiver’s ability to provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for their children. Home visitors work with children ages birth to three years and their parents/caregivers. Home visitors also work with prenatal mothers. Home visitors provide a wide range of maternal-child health related services that include; prenatal and well-baby care including immunizations; child health and safety; how and when to make the best use of your medical and dental homes; how to prevent injuries, including how to parent without the use of physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse; how to help support and increase school readiness; how to develop and implement a family budget; and coordination of referrals to community resources and supports. Serves environmentally at-risk families. Participants include prenatal women and families with children birth to three years old. The infants and children are considered at-risk for child abuse and neglect and developmental delays. The program provides comprehensive home visitation, child development screening and intervention, as well as psychosocial assessment, and motivational readiness for treatment and brief counseling. The intensity of the program varies over the course of service, starting with weekly home visits, and reducing the frequency as the family and child meet their goals.
