(Domestic Violence Services for Families) When child abuse occurs in the home, violent behavior towards spouses and others is also often present. After a family is required to enter the child welfare system and is discovered to be experiencing other forms of domestic violence a care plan is developed for each family member. Services are then provided for both survivors (victims) and batterers (perpetrators) of violent behavior. Survivors create a safety plan and are offered various supportive services. Batterers are assessed and provided opportunities to learn alternative attitudes and behaviors. This program works with families involved in the child welfare system who are also experiencing domestic violence. Staff work with each family to assess for domestic violence and/or risk factors related to domestic violence. A care plan is developed for each family member. The services that are available for each family include: Domestic Violence Survivor Support and Pattern Changing Groups for Victims, Individual Counseling and Support for each family member, Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on children, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Children’s Support Groups, and/or Adolescent Support Groups.

Susannah Wesley Community Center (SWCC) operates a multi-service center with services and programs for youth, families, individuals, newcomers, senior citizens, and other residents of Kalihi-Palama. Hui Kokua or SWCC's Emergency Food Pantry is available, please call for more information. The agency has a wide range of Youth and Family Services (e.g. truancy prevention, life skills development, CBase Diploma Program, non-school hours activities, home based parenting and a juvenile assessment center). The Kalihi-Palama Juvenile Assessment Center is a juvenile justice diversion program that works with youth and their families. SWCC's multi-lingual behavioral health care coordination program services adults struggling with mental illness. The Trafficking Victim Assistance Program (TVAP), Hawaii provides crisis response and comprehensive and trauma informed case management services to minors and adults who are suspected or identified as victims of human trafficking.

Social Services: Supports immigrants, refugee and low-income residents, and human trafficking victims with skill building that lead to self-sufficiency. (PSI Helpline) Provides a helpline for support and local referrals for postpartum mental health, along with online information and support groups to help families, providers, and communities learn about the emotional and mental health of childbearing families. Website helps locate specialized support coordinators. The helpline connects callers to crisis hotlines, support groups, and events in that area. Helpline runs 24/7, but is staffed only during business hours. Callers may leave confidential messages anytime and staff will return them as soon as possible.

(YWCA of Kauai Sexual Assault Treatment Program) Offers confidential crisis intervention counseling and support services for rape victims. Will accompany victims to hospital for examination, or to police for reporting, and to court if prosecution takes place. Provides speakers to schools and organizations, public education on sexual assault and harassment. Offers counseling and support services for children who have been sexually abused or molested by non-family members. Provides confidential group and individual counseling for adults molested as children.

Maui Family Peace Center serves clients on the islands of Maui and Lanai. Services are provided in the community to offenders, survivors, and child witnesses of domestic violence and include group and individual counseling, as well as case management, TRO assistance, court advocacy and crisis counseling. Offers Anger Control groups for men, women and teens. Provides crisis and case management services for child victims of sex trafficking. After hours appointments/groups available.

Provides support to anyone grieving the death of a friend or family member. Holds one-on-one sessions with staff as well as volunteer assistance offered by individuals who have experienced the grief process. Offers a six week bereavement support group which is held three times annually, providing an opportunity for healing as experiences are shared and information offered. Maintains a lending library of books and videos.

Program recipients for whom issues of safety and domestic violence are interfering with their progress can call upon Domestic Violence Advocacy to help them find support to change their situations. Our Child Protection Center (CPC) is the state leader in identifying, treating and helping children and families recover from child abuse. Founded in 1969 in collaboration with the State of Hawaii, the CPC has been helping Hawaii’s children for over 45 years. Ho'ola Na Pua's Starfish Mentoring Program (SMP) provides mentoring with trauma-informed care and support that addresses the unique needs of survivors of sex trafficking and those at risk. Weekly meetings are activity-based and led by extensively trained mentors aged twenty-one or older. Mentors offer support and advocacy while serving as positive role models to program participants. Referrals to the program can be made through service providers, law enforcement or family members by calling or texting 808.222.1872. The Starfish Mentoring program does not adhere to strict hours of operation and can be available after hours as well. Program service are community based, so they happen through the island of O'ahu.

(SASS, Empowering Alternatives Program, EAP, Sexual Assault Response and Advocacy Services, SARAH) Operates a 24-hour crisis hotline for persons affected by a sex assault, including women, men, girls and boys. Offers information, referral and direct support to any person victimized.
